OTHER ISSUES OF IMPORTANCE

Role of Government

Picture
The founding fathers spent years negotiating how to keep the Federal Government from stepping on the rights of the States and individuals. The Tenth Amendment was put into place to protect the people from the Federal Government creating power unto itself.  I believe as citizens of the United States, we need to live by the principles laid out in the Constitution. When we see government side step the checks and balances that protect the rights of all men and women, we have a duty to speak up and defend those rights.

I have advocated keeping public services local, and I have supported efforts to bring more money into local coffers for transportation.  Additionally, I have been heavily involved in keeping  the local conservation efforts and staff in your local communities answerable to the community they serve,  and not state committees.  I am currently working to keep excessive emission standards from coming into our community.

Federal Overreach

"Federalism in the United States is the constitutional relationship between U.S. state governments and the Federal Government of the United States. Since the founding of the country, and particularly with the end of the American Civil War, power shifted away from the states and towards the national government." (Wikipedia)

When we nationalize government services, we take away the rights and voice of our local people and communities. Too often the Federal Government offers to provide services on a national level. This seemingly prevents state and local politicians from raising local taxes. Currently,  there is a push to nationalize public services, police, education, health and human services, transportation and natural resources. This is also known as federal overreach.

District 53 needs someone to fight against federal overreach; someone who has experience working at a local level. Our district needs a person of leadership who has navigated the trails of local budgeting and experienced the boots-on-the-ground efforts of making policy and programs effective.  District 53 needs someone who can lead, negotiate, and push back against Washington bureaucrats when necessary.
