Salt Lake City, Utah
Delegates and candidates anxiously awaited the House District 53 ballot returns on Saturday at the 2016 Utah GOP Nominating Convention, which took place at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.
Sure enough, Logan Wilde successfully won enough votes to force long-time incumbent Mel Brown into a primary race, something that hadn't happened since 2010. The 78 year-old Brown had been serving in the legislature for 24 years.
According to a recent article in the Park Record, Logan responded, "Yes, I was surprised. Mel is an institution. I was happy to make it to 40 percent."
Logan hopes to communicate directly with Republican voters in the district to share his message of local control and common sense, whether in education, land use, water rights, or economic development.
